Squadron Leader Iain MacFarlane | On Wednesday 14th October 2015, I was invited to RAF Boulmer in Northumberland to conduct an interview with Squadron Leader Iain MacFarlane of Flight 'A' 202 Squadron - the squadron who flew and maintained the iconic yellow SeaKing helicopters on Search and Rescue missions in our region. We spoke about what it meant to the crew and staff who worked with the SeaKings, and their role in the community as the much-loved helicopters are withdrawn around the country, due to old age to be replaced with more up to date aircraft from Bristow. The impact on the local community was emotional and widespread as our local SAR 'big yellow birds' disappeared from RAF Boulmer on 30th September 2015. This is the end of an era but the beginning of a new one and I was happy to learn that none of the crew were made redundant, in fact some will be involved in training the crews of the new machines. It was an absolute pleasure to talk to Squadron Leader Iain MacFarlane, a true officer and gentleman and was a very enlightening interview. My utmost thanks to Squadron Leader Iain MacFarlane, Cath and Anne at RAF Boulmer, for their assistance in orchestrating our BBCR 'Farewell To The SeaKing' tribute. Recorded on 2015-10-17 |

Chris Barrie | Chris Barrie is a well known actor, stand up comedian and impressionist. Probably best known for his TV roles as "Rimmer" in "Red Dwarf", and "Gordon Brittas" in "The Brittas Empire", Chris was also the voice behind many "Spitting Image" characters, as well as providing the voice of Ronald Regan on the hit single "Two Tribes" by "Frankie Goes To Hollywood". He appeared in the "Blackadder" series with Rowan Atkinson and most notably played Angelina Jolie's butler in the "Lara Croft" films. I had the pleasure to interview Chris during his busy schedule as guest speaker at the Mazda MX-5 Owners Club Rally in Warwickshire last month. Ricky Warwick, Black Star Riders | Following the untimely death of frontman Phil Lynott, Thin Lizzy carried on the legacy in the same name. In 2012, the band decided to reinvent themselves as Black Star Riders, with Ricky Warwick (The Almighty) out front, original Lizzy member Scott Gorham and Damon Johnson on guitar, Marco Mendoza on bass, and Jimmy DeGrasson on drums. While Thin Lizzy still tour sporadically under the original name, Black Star Riders decided to record new material and released their debut album as BSR, All Hell Breaks Loose in 2013, followed by an extensive tour schedule taking in the UK, USA and Europe throughout 2013 and 2014, taking in top festivals along the way. With dates selling out and a well-thought out setlist consisting of a half and half show of Black Star Riders material and Thin Lizzy classics, Black Star Riders have taken the rock fraternity by storm. I have been lucky enough to interview frontman Ricky Warwick twice during the recent tours and here you can listen to the second interview. Ricky is the nice guy of rock and roll and has time for everyone. So far removed from Diva as anyone could be yet with his pedigree, this is a rare thing. The future looks bright for BSR and I for one, will be following their progress closely. The boys are most definitely back in town! Recorded on 2014-08-09 |

Peatbog Faeries | Thursday 31st July was a warm summer's evening, just right for heading to Alnwick Playhouse for some funky Celtic music from the Peatbog Faeries. I have been trying to catch up with these boys for the past couple of years and illness and other mishaps prevented it. But now the interview is in the bag and what a nice bunch of chaps they are! The Peatbog Fearies hail from the Isle Of Skye and began life in the local bars but can now be seen playing all over the UK, Europe and Canada to sell out audiences. Yet the atmosphere is still a personal one. The band enjoy spending after show time with their fans and I was honoured to have a birthday shout out halfway through their set. I describe their music as Celtic Funk.. they describe themselves as a dance band! Whichever way you hear it, the Peatbogs will have you on your feet, dancing the night away (whether Security allow it or not), while linking their setlist with hilarious banter. A jolly nice evening with a jolly nice bunch of chaps! Recorded on 2014-07-31 |
